Thermoforming
Affordable Thermoforming
Plasticut is an Australian company with more than 40 years of experience in the plastics manufacturing industry. One of our specialities is thermoforming, which is the process of choice for quick turnaround production times and affordable prices.
What is Thermoforming?
Thermoforming is a remarkably simple and highly cost-effective process that heats thin plastic sheets to a temperature where they can be reformed and stretched into shape (softening point). It can be used to form individual components or completed items, and once cooled each item or component can be individually separated. The result is a three-dimensional, finished part or item.
Thermoforming is a simple process that’s suitable for high-volume production of moulded products. Since the plastic sheets or extrusions need to be heated as part of the process, it can only be used on specific types of plastics, as follows.
- Polyethylene.
- Polypropylene.
- Polycarbonate.
- Nylons.
- PETP.
- PVC.
- Acrylic.
It’s used in the following industries:
- Automotive (dashboards, interior panelling, bumpers).
- Aerospace and Aviation (seating, overhead luggage storage, ducting).
- Building and Construction (skylights, machinery covers, equipment barriers)
- Public Transit (seating, dashboards, interior panelling).
- Medical Equipment (housings, packaging, bed components).
- Waste (rubbish bins, containers, trays).
- Business and recreational equipment (furniture, computer cabinets, electrical housings).
It’s a low-cost method of producing large quantities of thin-walled plastic components in a variety of sizes from fairly small to very large. Prototypes can also be produced accurately and it’s the only viable method for producing large items from plastic sheets. Items produced by thermoforming are exceptionally durable with a fair degree of structural integrity.
